Candle Material: There are some popular candle materials, including soy wax, paraffin, vegetable wax, coconut wax, etc. Paraffin has a good odor; soy wax lasts for a long time; palma wax has a high melting point. Sometimes, candles are made of wax type. However, you should be wary of one ingredient being more sustainable than others. Palm products help deforestation, but soybeans are not necessarily sustainable if plants are grown on single and fat land. Ultimately, it is difficult to tell whether candles are truly sustainable. Focusing on the boat you will reuse, with minimal packaging or donation towards the brand of environmental efforts may help.
Candle tips: When the candle is burned for the first time, you will set the wax “memory” setting. If you only allow it to burn for a moment and the entire top surface of the candle does not melt, set the baseline shape of the wax that could lead to the tunnel. Make sure you burn the candle evenly to avoid tunneling. If you encounter a tunnel, you can wrap foil over the candle when it is lit, or use a hair dryer to help soften the wax around the unseeded wax, but I think it would be easier to avoid it in the first place.
Candle safety: Never leave burning candles unattended. Make sure the candle is completely out before walking away. Keep the wick trimmed to about a quarter of an inch. Keep the candle away from flammable materials such as curtains or hair and do not burn in the grass. Make sure they are out of reach of pets and children. Don’t burn candles at a time for more than a few hours.
