Nissan holds a brand new plug-in hybrid pickup at Auto Shanghai
Nissan Motor Corporation unveiled its all-new Frontier Pro Plue Hybrid (PHEV) pickup truck this week at the Auto Shanghai 2025 Show, which the company said is one of nine new energy vehicle (NEV) models the company plans to launch in China by mid-2027. It is shown along with the recently unsuspended Dongfeng Nissan N7 battery-powered sedan, which is scheduled to be available this month.
The Japanese automaker confirmed that the Frontier Pro was its first PHEV model and its first electrically adopted truck. The model is scheduled to be launched in the Chinese market later this year and will also be available in other markets in Asia and elsewhere.
The five-seater double cab boundary professional is designed to be a double pickup truck for families, “looking for a vehicle that can comfortably and effectively support its daily city driving and weekend adventures beyond the city.” The company said it revolves around the concept of “sturdy technology” and its modern exterior design “complements a spacious and sophisticated interior.”
The plug-in hybrid powertrain is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a transmission-mounted high-output motor. The system is used in combination and provides power of more than 300 kW and torque of up to 800 nm. The Chinese model is expected to offer a range of up to 135 kilometers in pure EV mode.
All models will feature 5-link rear suspension and smart all-wheel drive, which automatically controls the torque distribution between the front and rear wheels. Off-road capability gains the availability of electromechanical and mechanical differential locks. It will offer four drive modes: hybrid, pure electrical, performance and snow.
The interior features heated and ventilated front seats with seat-style massage, a 10-inch LCD instrument panel and a 14.6-inch infotainment screen.
