Can I provide you with a beautiful image of the sun during these difficult times?

The joint mission of ESA and NASA solar orbitals provides amazing new images of the sun and its corona. The sun-drenched satellite was originally launched in 2020 and, in addition to making the sun look cool, the data it captures also affects things like how we understand the solar wind.

Today’s photos show sharp sugar-like particles captured in the magnetic field of the sun’s atmosphere, dark “wires” of cooler materials in active areas that emit solar flares and cracked active areas. Technically, the photo is a composite of 200 individual images taken by an extreme UV imager, about 77 million kilometers from the sun, ESA said. EUI allows to see in photos the unobservable parts of the traditional sun atmosphere or corona.

The solar orbiter regularly looks clearly at the closest stars we are even providing insights into Venus as it enters the current position of observing the Sun. For more details on the image and interactive tags explaining different areas of the sun, visit the ESA website.
