Suspicious combustion device found on Blue Ridge Park Avenue near Asheville

National Park Service (NPS) homeless responded to a portion of Blue Ridge Park Avenue near Asheville, North Carolina on Sunday after receiving reports of suspicious items in the dirt.

NPS officials say the device is located near the intersection of the Folk Arts Center

The Asheville Police Department Bomb Squad, the FBI and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene, and firefighters and first responders in Asheville and Riceville also responded to the scene.

The Folk Arts Center was evacuated and a portion of Park Avenue was temporarily closed for preventive measures, NPS said.

Experts have safely deleted the item, and NPS says there is no threat to the public at the moment.

Officials call the device a “improvisational combustion device.” NP did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for more information.

NPS said its investigative services are investigating the matter.

Construction of Blue Ridge Parkway began about 90 years ago in Cumberland Knob, North Carolina, on the Virginia border.

The main road connects Shenandoah National Park with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It starts in a rocky crack in Virginia, intersects the skyline, and then travels southwest through western North Carolina, Virginia.
