Students won’t use Pinterest during class, or at least, they will be seriously discouraged.
The social media app is trying to prompt that will encourage 13-year-old U.S. and Canadian users (the minimum age for account holders) and 17-year-olds over 17 to close the app and during typical school hours (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Pinterest confirmed in an email to Mashable that the prompt will attract “millions” of school-age users, and that the large-scale experiments are designed to better inform the app team. This comes after Pinterest CEO Bill Ready announced support for the Children’s Online Safety Act and the Telephone-free school policy Washington Post.
“Focus is a beautiful thing,” Flegg said. “Stay in this moment by putting down pinterest and pausing Notifs,” he said. [sic] Until the school bell rings. ”

Pinterest also announced a partnership with the International Society of Education and Technology on Tuesday to develop a digital citizenship and welfare action plan through the newly formed Digital Innovation Welfare Task Force.
“At Pinterest, we believe schools can leverage all the advantages that technology provides for students while minimizing harm and distraction,” Wanji Walcott, chief legal and commercial affairs officer at Pinterest, told The Verge. “Tech companies need to work with teachers, parents and policy makers to build solutions that ensure students’ hands, and smartphones are tools, not distractions.”
