Better cotton launch Pakistan initiative to drive green mission
The Cotton Multistakeholder Initiative aims to leverage Pakistan’s platform to regularly convene representatives from government, industry, donors and academia to foster cooperation and accelerate the process of developing a more sustainable cotton field.
The platform’s inaugural meeting was held in Lahore on April 10, where Better Cotton welcomes more than 35 participants to define common goals and expectations for future gatherings.
Hina Fouzia, director of better cotton in Pakistansaid: “Promoting more sustainable cotton production in Pakistan is not only crucial to the country’s economic development, but also its ability to protect humanity and labor rights, achieve national sustainable development goals, and ensure the global market for farmers and suppliers. Together, we have strong capabilities and the ability to live in the future cotton breeding community.”
The multi-stakeholder platform formalizes a method for close engagement between government agencies and stakeholders in the cotton sector. It will create greater transparency and accountability among organizations as they work towards a more sustainable cotton industry.
Participating organizations will attend quarterly meetings to exchange information and learn, define priorities, and jointly develop an action plan that can accelerate progress.
Last month, Better Cotton launched a multifaceted dialogue in Brazil, bringing the country’s agricultural and textile sectors together to promote multisectoral collaboration, coherence, prioritize and develop joint solutions for common interactive challenges.
The “A Better Cotton Launch Initiative to Promote Green Mission” was originally created and published by the global Data-owned brand Just Style.
