Trump’s hopeful Russia and Ukraine can reach a deal this week

President Donald Trump is “promising” Russia, and Ukraine can reach a deal this week after the temporary Easter ceasefire between the two countries ends.

“Hopefully, Russia and Ukraine will reach an agreement this week,” Trump said on his social media platform.

“Then both start to do big business with the United States of America, which is booming and playing a role!”

The war between the two countries has been breaking out for more than three years and has lost thousands of lives on both sides.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of reaching a ceasefire agreement and said: “Russian troops have violated Putin’s ceasefire more than two thousand times.”

Zelenskyy wrote: “The total number of violations against Russia’s own ceasefire commitments throughout the day reached 2,935.

“The promise of Russia’s total silence has not spread in the direction of Kursk. There were 96 Russian attacks in total, and there were 1,882 shellings in our location, especially 812 with heavy weapons, and Russian FPV drones have been used more than 950 times.” – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine will remain a mirror image, “will respond silently with our silence to defend the Russian strike.”

“Action is always more eloquent than words,” Zelenskyy said.

Putin ordered his troops to cease all military activities along the frontline during a temporary Easter ceasefire until midnight Moscow time on Sunday.

Zelenskyy had previously said he would propose to extend it for a longer time if the Easter ceasefire was actually held.

“This will reveal Russia’s true intentions – because 30 hours are enough to make headlines, but not real confidence-building measures,” he said. “Thirty days can give peace a chance.”

Zelenskyy added that “Moscow distrusts Moscow’s words” after one of his military leaders reported that Russia seemed to have broken their truce.

“We know very well how Moscow manipulates, and we are prepared for anything. Ukraine’s defense force will act in a reasonable way – respond in kind. Every Russian strike will be properly responded.”

R-Pa. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick responded to Zelenskyy and said on CBS that the possibility of Russia maintaining the deal “is entirely dependent on Vladimir Putin.”

“As far as I know, in any case, this man has never believed his promise,” Fitzpatrick said. “So we have to know that we are dealing with it. I want our government to know that they are dealing with Vladimir Putin. He is not his voice. He is not interested in peace. I want him to get there.”

Fitzpatrick added that he felt like Secretary of State Marco Rubio “does well and understands Putin”.

“He understands the dynamics of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the history there. I am confident in his ability to agree justly and impartially,” Fitzpatrick explained. “But it is important to remember that it applies to all the agreements we promote as a country, ultimately depending on the state’s acceptance and compliance with these conditions.”

He said: “The Ukrainian people are desperate to hope for peace. They have always wanted peace. Before Russia mistakenly invaded them, they were a peaceful country and they wanted to restore it. But this must be just and lasting peace.”

The temporary ceasefire comes after Trump said Thursday that an 80-page mineral agreement will be signed with Ukraine within a week. Finance Minister Scott Bessent later said it could sign on April 26.

Details of the protocol remain relatively unknown, despite recent reports Bloomberg The United States has proposed that the United States has eased its repayment requirements for the Ukraine’s fight against Russia, from $300 billion to $100 billion.
