While it began launching in the United States and Canada in 2023, it has recently begun riding on equipment from various European countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India.
In fact, AI-based chatbots are rolling out across the entire Meta ecosystem, including Messenger and Instagram, and can provide you with some basic features such as answering questions, generating text, or creating content. However, its appearance also raises privacy concerns for users and whether it can be turned off. This is what you need to know.
What can the Meta AI button in WhatsApp do?
A new button on WhatsApp appears above the icon to start a new chat in the lower right corner of Android and iOS. It allows users to interact directly with the Meta AI assistant. Users can also tag @Meta AI in chat to ask questions, and in addition, it will appear on their personal contact list.
Chatbots are based on Meta’s large open source language model Llama 3.2. Like when Chatgpt first arrived at WhatsApp, Meta AI starts with fewer features, helps you generate and improve text based on what it thinks it wants most, or helps you search the web for answers to your questions. But what happens to this data? Meta says its assistant cannot access or read the content of your message unless you ask for help, but even then the content of your message is still end-to-end encrypted and no details are linked to other Meta accounts such as Facebook or Instagram.
However, it is important to note that although the content of the private message is encrypted, the interaction with meta-AI is not. Meta warns that anything you send to Meta can be used to improve its AI model, so users should not “send messages…and information you don’t want it to know.” It does hope to chat with “visually different” meta-AI so that users can easily tell the difference.

How to delete meta AI on WhatsApp
So, what if you are not interested in this feature? Currently, it is not possible to disable or delete meta AI from WhatsApp. You can ignore it and choose not to use it, but the button will remain in the app.
If you have used it but don’t want to use it yourself, however, you can reset meta AI at a single chat level or on the entire stage. Deleting chats with Meta AI is not enough to do this, you will need to use the following reset command.
