Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders open in the U.S. on April 24, with a price of $450, and everything else you need to know
Nintendo finally revealed when gamers in the United States and Canada will be able to place orders for the Switch 2 console. Nintendo announced that Switch 2 reservations will open in both regions on April 24. Prices remain the same, even in the face of tariffs: a separate Switch 2 console will cost $450, while the Nintendo Switch 2+ Mario Karting World The bundle costs $500.
However, Nintendo also said it will adjust the price of Switch 2 accessories due to “market conditions”. “Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product can also be made, depending on market conditions,” the company said in a press release.
Also in its statement, the company apologized for the delay in booking and reiterated that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be widely used starting June 5.
How to book the switch 2
In addition to getting from Nintendo Direct Direct, you can grab the Switch 2 from participating retailers when the console is available. We hope these people include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart, etc.
But there are some beautiful prints available directly from Nintendo. According to the booking page on the Nintendo website, you must be at least 18 years of age, log in with your Nintendo account and register for your booking interest. Then, when you book that play, you will receive an invitation email and the invitation is valid for 72 hours. Then there is so much information: “The invitation email will be based on a first come first served basis to registrants who have purchased the Nintendo Switch online membership, as of April 2, 2025.
This seems to mean that those who have recently paid online, as well as those who spend a lot of time playing Switch games while purchasing Switch 2, will get their first choice. If you want to book from a third-party retailer, there are no such restrictions.

Tariffs and Nintendo Switch 2
In its latest direct talk in early April, Nintendo showed off more Switch 2 than ever before. In addition to the initial $450 price, this includes the unveiling of the April 9 booking opening date. Soon after, President Trump announced tariffs on China and other countries, prompting Nintendo to postpone reservations in the United States and Canada.
In a reversal, President Trump then announced a 90-day pause on the steep “countdown” tariffs affecting 75 countries, but also announced that tariffs imposed on China will rise further (currently, the country can reach up to 245%).
We now know that the initial $450 price of the Switch 2 will remain the same in the U.S. and Canada, but according to its official statement, Nintendo appears to be opening the door for potential future price increases.
We also know that Nintendo began moving some of its switch console manufacturing industries to Vietnam in 2019. Vietnam will have a reciprocal tariff of 46%, but now it appears that the 10% reciprocal tariff has been suspended, now effective for a 90-day pause. It is speculated that Nintendo will add production of the Switch 2 console in Vietnam so that it can go as planned, even if it sells the console at a loss in the short term.
More Switch 2 details
We know from the Switch 2 trailer that Nintendo’s new hardware will be bigger and there will be a new way to detachable Joy-Cons. The new Joy-Con 2 has a new C button, mouse controls and a built-in gyroscope for tilt control. The console has a built-in microphone that supports a new feature called Game Chat that allows you to communicate with friends in the game. The device is indeed bigger, with a 7.9-inch LCD screen that supports 120Hz refresh rate, HDR and 1080p resolution.
When docked, you will be able to play up to 4K on your TV, and Nintendo says it also improves the console’s internal speakers. The new dock also features a built-in fan that keeps the console cool and helps maintain performance during long-term playback. Switch 2 has a rechargeable dual USB-C port, with base storage increased to 256GB. The Switch 2’s storage space can be expanded like previous models, but it can only work with newer MicroSD Express cards.
The Switch 2 has many accessories that you can buy separately as well. These are what Nintendo says will get price adjustments – otherwise known as price increases. The new Switch 2 camera now costs $55 instead of the original $50 price; the new Switch 2 Pro controller will be $85 instead of $80; an extra pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers will get you back $95 instead of $90, while the Joy-Con charging grip will cost $40 instead of $35.
