“Hey [Sen. Van Hollen]I continue to change your office plaque for you. ” Collins wrote.
Collins has repeatedly criticized Van Hollen for traveling to El Salvador to meet with the defendant’s MS-13 member and illegal immigrant Kilmar Abrego-Garcia. In another post on X, Collins slams Van Hollen as a “traitor.”
Additionally, when Van Hollen first announced his trip to El Salvador, Collins replied: “If you’re going to advocate for illegal gang members harder than American citizens, don’t come back.”
Abrego-Garcia’s deportation has caused a stir among Democrats, many of whom say the El Salvador national was a hardworking Maryland resident who violated due process rights.

However, despite a deportation order issued in 2019, Abrego-Garcia, who illegally entered the United States in 2011, remains illegal in the country.
According to Homeland Security Investigation (HSI), Prince George County Police Gang Department identified Abrego-Garcia as the infamous Mara Salvatura (MS-13) gang member. The HSI report also noted that Abrego-Garcia was suspected of being trafficked after the Tennessee Highway Patrol met him in December 2022.
According to the HSI report, on December 1, 2022, a Tennessee Highway Patrol patrol stopped Abrego-Garcia after being observed to be “speeding” and noticed eight people in the vehicle but no luggage. Abrego-Garcia said he drove from Houston, Texas to Temple Hills, Maryland three days ago, so he could “execute construction projects.” Additionally, the person in the car reportedly offered the same address as Abrego-Garica’s home. The report noted that soldiers suspected that this was a human trafficking incident.
