Four tourists killed after two British tourists crashed on the ground in Naples

Two British tourists are believed to be one of four people whose traction was captured by the cable car, while the cabin was hit on the ground in southern Italy.

Four tourists and an engineer were getting on the cable car as they drove into the woodlands in Naples at “maximum speed” after hitting the tower on Thursday afternoon, triggering a major rescue operation.

Mountain rescuers said four people were killed, while the helicopter was evacuated by the fifth person in serious cases.

The accident occurred when the cable car approached Monte Faito Landing Station, a peak about 45 km (28 miles) southeast of the city, with hiking views of Naples and Vesuvius.

“What happened was an unimaginable, unpredictable tragedy,” Umberto de Gregorio, chairman of EAV public transport, runs a cable car service on Facebook.

According to Italian media reports, two of the four were killed during the holiday after supporting the wired. According to Il Corriere Della Sera, another is a cable car operator from a nearby town, and the fourth is an Israeli tourist.

The Naples Hospital said to his treatment that Israel was injured for the second time and was in a stable but serious condition.

Campania Governor Vincenzo de Luca told Rainews that “two tourist couples” were in the cabin when the disaster struck shortly after 3 p.m. along the cableway connecting Castellammare di Stabia to the summit.

“The traction cable broke down and the emergency brake downstream worked, but it was obviously not the one in the cabin that entered the top of Faito,” Castellammare di Stabia Mayor Luigi Vicinanza told reporters.

Another cabin parked in the air near the foot of the mountain, with 16 passengers evacuating one-to-one seat belts, footage on RAI TV and other media displays.

De Luca told Rai that fog and strong winds hindered the rescue.

Mr De Gregorio said that in the spring and summer ten days ago, cable car services had just reopened.

Local media reported that the prosecutor Torre Annunziata’s office investigated the incident.

Mr. De Luca told Rainforest during a rescue mission: “Mist and bad weather are hindering action, but it may be worse – many people’s lives have been saved. The company told us that maintenance has been completed.

“The cabin is likely to drop at maximum speed and hit the central tower, and now we have to do everything we can to help the injured.

“The cable car has been closed for years, reactivated in 2017, and renovations have been underway.”

“We are breathless,” said Angelo Lustro, secretary general of the CGIL League.

He added that confirming the engineer as one of the victims, “It is time to mourn and silent for the victims of this huge and ridiculous tragedy. Then, it is time to determine the cause and take responsibility.”

Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli expressed condolences to the victims, saying: “Monte Faito is a symbolic place. As the guardian of the beauty of nature, we are deeply troubled by seeing this tragic scene today.

“Our sincerest idea is the affected communities and everyone facing the consequences of this tragic.”

In 2021, 14 people died in Italy when a cable car dropped Lake Margar and nearby mountains on the ground.
