CNET confirmed Thursday that Meta is removing options to use the Apple Intelligence writing tool. These options were initially enabled in Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and threads, but appear to have been removed by some users.
It seems that Meta’s removal of Apple’s AI capabilities may have started as early as December 2024, confusing iPhone owners who may rely on features in their apps. Meta and Apple did not respond to requests for comment.
CNET senior writer Abrar Al-Heeti digs deeper. When she tried to highlight text on Instagram for rewriting, she saw only a “With AI With Ai” option that did not provide the Apple Intelligence writing tool option, but instead led to the Meta AI window.
On threads and on WhatsApp, Al-Heeti doesn’t see the option to change text using AI at all. She hasn’t seen Apple Intelligence on Facebook apps yet, just a “help me write” tool that then leads to Meta AI.

The change was first discovered by Brazilian technology blog Sorcererhat. Appleinsider has done more research on Apple developer documentation to confirm that iOS and iPadOS applications need to enable the feature manually and the discovery of Apple’s support forums.
At the moment when AI is everywhere and every big tech company is building its own solutions to compete with each other, it may not be surprising that Mehta decides to eliminate the use of Apple’s intelligence writing tools. Meta may want users to use their own AI instead of Apple’s.
What are these writing tools?
Apple Intelligence’s writing tool suite is just one of several AI-driven features of iPhone Maker. Currently, Apple Intelligence is only available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models, 2024 iPad Mini and Select Mac computers.
To get access to the writing tool features, you need to highlight the text you want to adjust, and the Writing Tools menu option will appear in the floating menu on the text. That is, if the feature is available for the application you are trying to use.
Writing tools will allow you to easily proofread any grammatical errors and rewrite the entire text, including friendly, concise or professional presets.
