The 443-foot NCL Salten drove toward Johan Helberg’s wooden house near dawn Thursday.

Herberg had only one panicked neighbor who repeatedly rang the doorbell, and to no avail, he found the unexpected visitor and called him by phone.

“The doorbell rings during the day,” Herberg told TV2.

His neighbor, Jostein Jorgensen, said he was piqued by the sound of a ship heading to land at full speed around 5 a.m. and ran to Herberg’s home immediately.

TV2 reported that the huge ship reportedly caused damage to the heating pipes in the Herberger Lodge, but the homeowner said he thought he was lucky.

“If the ship hits the rocky cliff next to it, it will lift and hit the house hard,” he told TV2. “There is not much distance.”

None of the 16 crew members of the cargo ship were injured and Norwegian police have investigated.

“We know police pointed out they have a suspect and we will continue to assist police and authorities in conducting an ongoing investigation,” NCL Shipping said Friday.

It added: “We are still doing internal queries but are reluctant to speculate further.”

Transportation CEO Bente Hetland told TV2 that the same ship ran twice in Hadsel in 2023 and again in Ålesund in 2024.

So far, efforts to reinstall the ship have failed, with the huge red and green container ship still stuck in the cabin.
