Israeli strike destroys part of Gaza hospital

Israeli air raids before dawn hit hospital Northern Gaza Earlier on Sunday, after forcing patients to evacuate quickly, staff said they received a warning just 20 minutes before the attack.
The strike attacked Al-Ahili Hospital in Gaza City. A patientHamas Management Department of Health said a girl died during the evacuation because medical staff were unable to provide urgent care.
The health agency is one of the few operating hospitals in Gaza, run by the Diocese of Jerusalem, which condemned the attack.

The parish said in a statement that the double strikes damaged several buildings, including the pharmacy and emergency departments.
“Just twenty minutes before the attack, the Israeli army ordered all patients, employees and displaced persons to evacuate the hospital premises immediately before the bombing,” the statement said. “We thank God that the explosion was not injured or died.”
The parish said that the hospital had attacked five times since the war began in November 2023 – “This time it began on the morning of Palm Sunday and Holy Week.” Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.
“We call on all governments and people of goodwill to intervene to stop all kinds of attacks on medical and humanitarian institutions,” it said. “We pray and call on the end of this terrorist war and the suffering of many.”

Dr. Fadel Naim, director of Al-Ahli Hospital, said in an article on X that the damage to the hospital will affect more than 100 patients and dozens of medical staff.
Images of the rear horse show the hospital’s cement roof, surrounded by debris. Dr. Munir Al-Boursh, Director-General of the Ministry of Health, said the evacuation was frightening and people drove into the streets on hospital beds.
“It’s very scary for the patients…we don’t know what’s going on,” he said. The Ministry of Health said the patient has since been transferred to three other hospitals in Gaza City, including Shifa, Al-Quds and Kuwait Field Hospital.
Israel said this attacked Hamas’ command and control center used by the hospital to plan and execute attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers without providing evidence. It said that before the strike, steps to mitigate the hazard were taken, including issuing warnings and the use of precise ammunition and aerial surveillance.
A few hours later, a separate strike took place on a car in Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza, with at least seven people – six brothers and their friends, according to staff at Morgue at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.

The Israeli military also said that when many Hamas militants were present and planned to attack Israeli soldiers, they targeted another command and control center of Dil Albara. This has nothing to do with strikes on cars in the same area that the military says are investigating.
The strike came a few hours after Israel’s defense minister said military activities would quickly expand to Gaza and people would have to evacuate from the “fighting zone.” Israel also announced on Saturday that the Morag Corridor was completed, cutting off the southern city of Rafah from the rest of Gaza, and the military said it would soon expand in most of the coastal areas.
Israel demanded Hamas to release 59 hostages, 24 of whom were considered alive and accepted the proposed new ceasefire clause.
In the past 24 hours, Hamas-run Gaza’s Ministry of Health said 11 people were killed and 100 were injured.
Medical facilities are often criticized in wars, but combatants often portray incidents that are accidental or exceptional because hospitals enjoy special protections under international law. During the 18-month campaign in Gaza, Israel has conducted open campaigns, sieges and attacks on hospitals several times and hit multiple other strikes in the strike, while accusing Hamas of using it as the cover of combatants.
The war began with Hamas killing 1,200 people on October 7, 2023, mainly civilians and captured 250 people, some of whom were eventually released by a ceasefire deal. At least 41 hostages were imprisoned.
According to the Ministry of Health there, more than 50,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed in Israel’s retaliatory offensive so far, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians, but says more than half of the dead are women and children.
