Most high school students (56%) say AI helps relieve their anxiety about learning math. The statistics come from a March survey of 1,500 Years 11 and 12 students in the United States and Wales, conducted by the Society for Industry and Applied Mathematics.

The majority of students surveyed (61%) said that AI provided them with immediate help, feedback and clarification. The results show that learning the anxiety surrounding learning in a non-judgmental environment, so instead of having to ask questions in front of other students, use AI to make mathematics more accessible and understandable.

However, the teacher’s results are different. Of the 250 teachers surveyed, only 19% agreed on the impact of AI’s anxiety-relieving effects, but nearly half (49%) said they believed using AI to help learn mathematical concepts rather than just seeking answers to mathematical problems.

The organization released its findings this week as part of promoting its annual mathematical modeling challenge that will focus on global warming.
