Texas murder suspect cuts ankle monitor captured after weeks

A Texas Capital murder suspect who failed to appear in court was arrested Monday for weeks, a weeks-long escapee, who failed to appear in court.
“Trevor McEuen, the fugitive, was detained early this morning,” the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook Monday.
McEuen has been running since early May when he allegedly cut off his ankle display and fled the day of his trial, which was linked to the shootings of neighbor, rancher and horse trainer Aaron Martinez in 2023.

McEun allegedly admitted that when the rancher was sitting in a truck outside his home, he shot and killed Martinez, 35.
McEuen holds on $2 million in bonds. According to Fox 4, the judge refused to lower the bond amount, McEuen eventually released the bond and released it in September through an ankle monitor. He was detained after allegedly breached his release clause, but McEuen issued another $2 million bond in December, and was released for the second time.
He faces allegations of terrorist threats, murder and aggravated attacks with deadly weapons.
According to Midland Reporter-Telegram, the Texas Department of Public Safety issued an additional arrest warrant against McEuen on May 6.
McEuen was allegedly living at his home in Van Zandt County before officials arrived when he cut off his ankle display.

Gov. Greg Abbott has since cited the case when pushing for bail reforms, including a state constitutional amendment that requires a Texas judge to automatically deny bail including crimes of violent crimes.
On May 15, Abbott said the award led to the increase in McEuen’s captive information to $30,000 as he urged Texans to submit an anonymous tip to “help law enforcement arrest the outrageous criminal.”
Republican governor said McEwan “is exactly why Texas must fix its broken and deadly bail system.”

The Sheriff’s Office agreed to more details on the arrests, which will be released later Monday morning.
