Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored his 892nd goal on Wednesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, but within three goals that broke Wayne Gretzky’s all-time scoring mark.
This is the only goal the capital has scored in a 5-1 loss to the Hurricanes. He played almost two in the game but was parked in the hole by goalkeeper Frederik Andersen in the second stage. He eventually defeated Anderson in a 5-3 power match later in the second game.

“We transferred a chance to break through the second time, the first time,” Ovechkin said. “In this game, if you have a chance, you have to use it, and I think all the goalkeepers played well tonight.”
Ovechkin acknowledges the playoff atmosphere in Raleigh, North Carolina. In the third phase, after multiple battles broke out, eight players were given match misconduct.
“We knew it was possible to see them in the playoffs,” Ovickin said. “That was the playoff atmosphere.”

Washington and Carolina are two of the top teams in the Mets division in the Eastern Conference. The capital has 105 points, and the Hurricane has 96 points.
There are at least seven games left, and the “GR8 Chase” continues. Ovechkin can play against the Chicago Blackhawks Friday night at the end of the weekend and then play on the road with the New York Islanders on Sunday.
Gretzky’s 894 professional goal record was once considered unparalleled, but Ovechkin ignored the odds.

“(The record) feels like it’s right there,” said chief defender Trevor Van Riemsdyk. “He felt like he was still scoring every night. It was so big for us and he was happy to see him still doing it at this painful pace.”
