iOS 18.4: How to enable and customize Apple Intelligence Priority Notifications
Apple released iOS 18.4 on March 31, more than two months after the release of iOS 18.3. The latest update has launched a new recipe section for Apple News and has brought some new emojis to all iPhones. The update also brings priority notifications to iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, such as the iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, or iPhone 16 lineup.
“Apple Intelligence can show you notifications that may be important in separate sections of the lock screen, so you can catch up on what you might have missed,” Apple wrote in its feature description. “You can still swipe up to see all notifications.”
This means that if you enable priority notifications, message notifications from your friends and family may appear near the top of your notification stack instead of burying it under ring alerts, Apple News Updates, etc. This way, you will first see the notifications that matter most to you.

When I downloaded iOS 18.4, priority notifications are turned off by default, so you have to enable the feature after downloading the update.
This is how to enable priority notifications on your iPhone. Don’t forget that this feature is now accessible only to iPhones with Apple Intelligence enabled. If you don’t have a device with the iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, or iPhone 16 series, you won’t be able to access this feature.
How to turn on priority notifications
1. Open set up.
2. Tap notify.
3. Tap Priority Notification.
4. Click the slider next to it Priority Notification.
After clicking Priority Notificationa drop-down menu will appear, which you can appear from all the apps you can get priority notifications from. Each application in the menu will enable you to send you priority notifications. You can browse the menu and disable some or most applications, just letting you send priority notifications.
For example, I don’t need priority notifications from Bluesky or Mail, but I do want the functionality of messages and phone calls. If someone calls me, does that matter?
