PLEX launches updated mobile app

PLEX launched a new version of the mobile app on Monday, bringing improvements such as extended artwork usage, redesigned navigation and – “for personal media professionals” – labels for centralized media libraries.
According to the company, the updated app will be fully launched next week. Customers can expect to see new title artworks for movies and shows, dedicated locations for PLEX’s watchlist features in top navigation, and a simplified user menu. After testing, the remodeled app arrives and the new app of the TV platform will soon follow.
PLEX (one of our top choices for our cost-free TV streaming services) allows you to watch free sign-ups, on-demand content and live channels. You can also turn to PLEX to set up your personal media server (more on this help page). According to the App Store, the new app “is designed to bring everything you love to a seamless interface to on-demand content that is in your personal media collection.”
In the blog post, PLEX offers tweaks since the application testing period, including improved load time, tweaking TV shows and portrait mode support options.
Existing PLEX users who update their mobile apps should know that pre-existing downloads will be missing some metadata and can be fixed by re-downloading the title. Another change is that the favorite library has replaced pinning the library to the sidebar. PLEX is actively developing music and photos apps that will accompany the Plex app, and you will not be able to access photos and music in the main app after updates.
Last month, PLEX announced changes to those who remotely stream personal content from PLEX servers. They now need a PLEX pass or a new remote watch pass (or the server’s administrator account requires PLEX PAXS). The company will also increase the price of its monthly, annual and lifetime PLEX PASS subscriptions later this month.
