Nigeria’s spectacular horse parade close to Ramadan
The booming gunfire, vibrant dresses and bragging trumpet made the Nigerian city Durbar animated Nigerian cities during Durbar.
It is a one-day horse parade, a celebration of Ramadan.
Emirs – traditional Islamic leaders – usually march on their territory with a large number of horse riders.
Emir of Dutse Hameem Nuhu Sunusi was riding on a white stallion on Monday, shading the sun by a blue parasol on the pattern.
Emir told AFP that the festival showed off Nigeria’s rich traditions.
According to the UN’s cultural organization, Durbar is “a deft display of equestrianism and glorious people…a heritage exhibition”.
Royal Hunter fired on Monday to announce Emil’s attitude.
Dutse is just one area of the northern majority of Muslims in Nigeria that owns a region of Durbar – a century-old tradition. The music festival is held twice a year – during the Eid and Eid holidays.
This is an occasion for all ages. In Dutse, members of the National Boy Scouts Association were involved.
Horses are not the only quadruped on display.
Duba usually takes place within a few days – the Dutse celebrations will continue on Tuesday.
