Mexican man convicted of fatal semi-truck crash in Colorado

Last year, allegedly illegal immigrants were convicted of a fatal Colorado crash involving a semi-truck he drove and were detained by federal immigration authorities on Sunday.
According to a report from Denver 7, Mexican national Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza, 47, was detained by U.S. immigration and customs law enforcement officers.
Cruz-Mendoza is the driver of a semi-truck that crashed on Highway 285 in June 2024, killing one person.

He pleaded guilty to one count of careless driving, resulting in death and three counts of careless driving, resulting in injury. He was sentenced to about one year in prison.
According to authorities, Cruz-Mendoza was illegally in the United States at the time of the crash. He also ordered to remove his post from the country and was sent to Mexico several times.

Cruz-Mendoza has evacuated 12 times from the United States and has voluntarily returned to Mexico four times since 2002, the agency said.
“If we weren’t here, this person would be released back to the Denver community,” Robert Guadian of Ice Denver Field Office told Denver7.
