Thailand says travel safely after recent earthquake
Thailand said it is safe to travel to many of the country’s tourist destinations after the devastating earthquake in the region, and the tourism minister noted that no tourists were injured and did not affect tourist attractions.
“Travels, hotels and activities are in normal condition. Safety assurance inspections are conducted. Travel police monitor key site. No travel cancellations.”
The operator announced that international airports, such as on popular holiday islands in Bangkok and Phuket, have also resumed normal operations. Previously, the terminal and runway have been checked for damage.
According to a speech by the country’s central bank governor, tourism accounts for 12% of Thailand’s total national products (GDP) and over 20% of the total labor force.
To date, a large earthquake centered on Myanmar has killed 17 people in Bangkok. Authorities said at least 83 people were missing, adding that 32 were injured.
