Houston Texan’s safety Jimmie Ward was arrested Wednesday on felony assault at his home in Texas on charges of domestic violence.

Ward, 33, was arrested after an incident in Magnolia, Texas Thursday, June 12 and was charged with assault and suffocation or suffocation, Montgomery County jail records show. He was arrested on third-degree felony charges at 5:38 a.m.

Ward was still in custody as of Thursday afternoon, with no guarantee.

Omar Majzoub, senior director of communications at Texas, said in a statement shared with people that the group was “aware of the report involving Jimmie Ward” and was “collecting more information.” Marton said the Texan “has no further comments yet.”

Ward’s agent did not immediately return people’s request for comment.

Ward ranked 30th in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft for the San Francisco 49ers and played with the team until the 2023 offseason, when he signed a two-year contract with the Texans. He often calls him by the middle name “Neko”, which is also the name he uses on Instagram.

According to an NFL biography, Ward played four seasons at Northern Illinois University before being selected for the NFL, missing only one game in all four years.

He is also the cousin of former NBA player Caron Butler, who is currently an assistant coach for the Miami Heat.

Ward is not active on social media and only occasionally posts to Instagram. His latest post was a brand collaboration in February.

In November 2024, Ward was praised for his community involvement when he appeared in an anti-bullying campaign at a local elementary school. “Thank you @texanstoro1 for letting me help with this initiative. Let’s continue attacking bullying. 🦾🤘🏿🦾🤘🏿.”
