Big policeman present after West Hollywood shooting

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy fired a man Saturday night at a busy intersection and shopping district in West Hollywood, prompting police response and street closure.
The man was taken to hospital after being shot dead in the 7100 block of Santa Monica Avenue at the intersection of La Brea Avenue at 5:57 p.m., according to a department press release.
Deputy Veronica Fantom called the incident a “shooting involving an officer.” She said all officials were explained and no other information was available.
Weho Times posted a video in which a man’s stretcher was loaded into an ambulance. The man seemed alert as he was hanging in the car, shouting and looking up.
The area is home to the West Hollywood Portal Mall, which has targets, Best Buy and other stores. Video shared with social media shows helicopters hovering overhead while yellow police videos blocked the intersection and section of the mall’s first floor square.
“The areas that avoid La Brea Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd have conducted an active law enforcement investigation,” the Sheriff’s Department wrote on X, formerly on Twitter. “Our representatives are in the area, with multiple streets closed. There is currently no threat to the community.”
The Sheriff’s Department requires anyone with information about this incident to call the Homicide Bureau by (323) 890-5500.
