Unfortunately, two of the two best retro gaming consoles in recent years, NES Classic Mini and SNES Classic Miniproduction has been discontinued. Both feature a great design with a miniature look that fits the original work of Nintendo’s greatest hits, a silky performance and a strong game lineup. You can still buy online (usually from third-party dealers), but the price is severely inflated. For example, the SNES Classic Mini was $80 at launch, but dealers are currently selling for over $320 on Amazon. You may be better off buying used second-hand.
Nintendo fans are keen on some classic game moves that can better grab the Nintendo switch and buy it Nintendo Switch Online Membership ($20 a year) To access over 100 NES and SNES titles (this is the full list). Add the expansion pack ($50 a year) and you can also get these N64 games. If you want to crave some old-fashioned pocket Nintendo fun, check out the Revived Game & Watch ($55) route. They are limited to a few games, but when these games are Super Mario or Zelda Title, this can be enough for hours of fun.

this Simulation Mega SG ($200) (8/10, wired recommendation) is expensive and doesn’t have any games or controllers (they’re priced at $25). But it plays old Sega Genesis cartridges, so if you have a box in your basement, it’s a reliable option. Thanks to the FPGA chip, the console runs the original game just like you remember.
Modretro Colors Priced at $199: Modretro Color is a beautiful handheld handheld style that is able to play original game boys and game boys color games. Feeling authentic, with good battery life (three AA batteries), responsive controls, a solid speaker, and a bright enough display to be used outdoors. I lost an hour of the game right away Tetris. Modretro avoids modern additions such as Saves or downloadable games, but is releasing new titles about Game Boy Cartridges. As cute as this retro handheld, it can be said that Modretro founder Palmer Luckey controversially put it in a mild case, which is enough to disappoint you.
There are plenty of classic arcade games on PlayStation 4 or 5. If you choose PS Plus Premium subscription ($18 per month or $160 per year)you will get a classic directory containing old PlayStation games.
The Xbox Series X|S has the best backward compatibility as Microsoft’s latest gaming consoles play Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox titles. You can also find classic titles included in our favorite game subscriptions, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate ($20 per month).
If you have a steam deck from Valve, check out the Comprehensive Emerd Imitate various old systems. PC gamers also have huge simulator options. I like Retroarch Because it will simulate multiple systems, but if you have an old console you like and want to get close to the original experience, you may find a tailored emulator to tickle it.

this Panic Playdate ($229) (7/10, wired recommendation) isn’t a strict retro console, but it’s fun, creative and quirky, and has a unique retro feel. It even has a crank with a whole new way to interact with the game!
this Simulation Duo ($250) (6/10, wired review) makes TurboGrafx-16 and PC engine gaming look incredible on any HDMI screen. It has Hucard and CD-ROM features, so existing games are available regardless of media, region or other requirements. Sadly, this is expensive, the controller costs extra money and does not have the support of OpenFPGA.
