X For Sale – to Elon Musk’s AI Company

X owner Elon Musk announced late Friday that the social media site has been sold to Musk’s own artificial intelligence company Xai.
Musk posted on X: “Xai and X’s futures are intertwined. Today, we have officially taken a step to combine data, models, computing, distribution and talent… This will allow us to build a platform that not only reflects the world, but also actively accelerates human progress.”
Xai based Hollywood Reporter. AI companies are now worth $80 billion, and X is worth $33 billion, including $12 million in debt.
Musk bought X for $44 billion in October 2022, then called Twitter.

What does this mean for X users? AI may be more fully integrated into the X experience. Since its launch in 2023, social media sites have actively pushed their generated AI chatbot Grok to users. Musk also changed his terms of service shortly after the November election, asking users to agree to AI training on their tweets.
Musk claimed that X had 600 million “active users” when announcing the deal. He didn’t say “monthly active users”, and experts believe that is almost half the number.
Since Musk’s purchase, the private company has provided millions of users through various measures to provide millions of users, with expected to lose millions of dollars in 2025.
