Diego Maradona says autopsy expert
Buenos Aires, Argentina (AP) – One of the forensic experts responsible for the autopsy of Diego Maradona said the great great pain of Argentina football suffered at least 12 hours before his death, noting that “any doctor” should have noticed the symptoms a few days ago.
Carlos Cassinelli, principal of science police forensic medicine director, provided details of the autopsy during a hospital stay at a home in the Buenos Aires city of Tigre of Tigre on Thursday.
“The heart is completely covered with fat and blood clots, which shows the pain,” the expert said in a homicide trial killing seven health professionals.
The autopsy concluded that Maradona died of acute pulmonary edema that inherited congestive heart failure.
“This is a patient who collected water for a few days; that’s not acute. It’s predictable,” Casinelli said. “Any doctor who examines the patient will find this.”
According to the prosecution, the defendant’s professionals – neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, psychologists, doctors and nurses – cared for Maradona during his recovery, who failed to provide adequate medical services, allegedly resulting in his death.
During the investigation, several witnesses testified that they noticed excessive swelling of Maradona’s face and abdomen.
Among those on trial were Leopoldo Luque, a private physician in the last four years of Maradona’s life, and Agustina Cosachov, a psychiatrist, who prescribed the medications Maradona took until his death.
