Colbert Presses Schumer votes for GOP spending bill from the left

CBS late night host Stephen Colbert imposed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer from the left on Thursday as he recently decided to support the Republican spending bill.
Some Democrats have called for Schumer to resign after the vote, showing that he has not worked hard enough to fight the Trump administration. Colbert, the left-wing host of “The Late Show” and a Democratic booster, once danced with Schumer in Central Park, repeatedly asked Schumer to explain his decisions about the progressives.
“After months of Democrats, desperate to see the party’s leaders exercise any limited powers that the minority party may have, you vote to promote ongoing resolutions drafted by the Republican Party to avoid a government shutdown,” Colbert said.

He added: “Many people are angry with you.”
“Before you explain, I’m sure why they shouldn’t be mad at you, can you put yourself in your shoes for a moment and try to understand why they are?” Colbert asked Schumer.
“People are angry,” Schumer said. “I’m angry because Donald Trump has done so much damage to the United States, the working people of the United States.”
“But do you know why they are mad at you?” Colbert said, urging Schumer to explain his decision again.

“Well, because of the way I voted, they got angry.” “And I know that. I know a lot of people get frustrated when I vote the way I do. But let me tell you why I do that.”
The senator said: “The shutdown will be 10 times more than CR.”
Schumer defended his vote, saying Social Security and other rights programs are at the greatest risk to the Trump administration.
“Look, I’m not resigning,” Schumer said in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday. “I know there’s a lot of controversy when I vote for the government shutdown.”
Schumer has repeatedly warned that the Trump administration will cut funds for snapshots, food stamps and mass transport and cut Medicaid “to 20, 30, 50, 80 percent.”
