Top 2 earthquakes rock Southeast Asia, attacking Thailand and Myanmar

Bangkok – Two violent earthquakes rocked Southeast Asia on Friday, causing buildings in the Thai capital Bangkok to sway and prompted the entire city and neighboring Myanmar to evacuate. Bangkok police say the skyscraper under construction collapsed after the first attack in Bangkok.

French news agency AFP said medical staff said 43 workers were trapped at the collapsed site.

Police told the Associated Press that the scene is located near the popular Chatuchak market in Bangkok.

The first amplitude is 7.7 and shallow depth is 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), the US Geological Survey and the German GFZ Center for Earth Sciences said. According to preliminary reports, its center is in Myanmar.

After 12 minutes, an aftershock with an amplitude of 6.4 shocked the area.

Water from the high-rise rooftop pool in Bangkok was on the side as it swayed from the first earthquake, debris fell from many buildings.

There was no immediate report of casualties, Prime Minister Paeton tarn Shinawatra convened an emergency meeting to assess the impact of Temblors.

The Greater Bangkok area is home to more than 17 million people, many of whom live in high-rise apartments.

When the first earthquake hit around 1:30 pm, alarms for buildings sounded, as shocked residents were evacuated from dense high-rise apartments and hotel stairs in central Bangkok.

They stayed on the street, seeking shadows from the noon sun within minutes after the earthquake.

The Thailand Disaster Prevention Bureau said the first earthquake was felt in almost all parts of the country.

The center of the first earthquake was in central Myanmar, about 30 miles east of Moniva City.

In the capital, Naypyitaw, an earthquake damaged religious shrines, dumped parts on the ground, and some houses.

Further reports were not immediately involved in the civil war from Myanmar.
