Pentagon warns government officials that signals are targets for Russian hackers
It turns out that including a reporter from your National Security Leader’s group chatting about a military strike is not the only way to damage signal-sensitive information. NPR Tuesday reported that the Pentagon issued a warning warning about the use of messaging apps due to phishing vulnerability, days after the Trump administration’s ridiculous and dangerous national security failure.
“The vulnerability has been identified in the Signal Messenger application,” obtained by a department-wide email NPR read. “Russian professional hacking groups are hiring [Signal’s] The memo states that the “linked device” feature is to monitor encrypted conversations. “The memorandum notes that the Russian hacker group “targets signal messengers to monitor interested people.”
A signal spokesperson told NPR The memo is not about the security of the signal, but about phishing attacks on the platform. So if you use the app, be especially careful about trying to trick you into linking your device to your account. Or just communicate through different channels.
The scandal that the Pentagon directive follows, at least in previous times, will end the careers of long-established officials. (In this…who knows?) Atlantic Editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg reported on Monday that a group of national security officials from the Trump administration accidentally included him in a signaling group chat to discuss a military strike in Yemen.
The conversations included Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Vice President Judd Vance, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. They – basically Goldberg, discussing the timing, goals and weapons of bombing the Houthi ruins in Yemen.
The 2023 Ministry of Defense memorandum prohibits the use of mobile applications to “control unclassified information.” NPR It is pointed out that military planning is more sensitive than this. And, this doesn’t even accidentally cover the journalists in conversation.
entire Atlantic The article is worth reading, but some of the gems in the chat include Heggs’ writing: “I totally share your dislike for European freeloading. It’s sad.” And, “No one knows who Husseus is, which is why we need to focus on: 1) Biden’s failure & 2) Iranian funding.”
Hegseth back The White House confirmed this.
Although the consequences are still taking shape, it is an early taste. U.S. Navy Captain and current Senators Mark Kelly Grills Gabbard and Ratcliffe, who retired on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, watched below Tuesday.
