NVIDIA turns April jokes into real AI PC gaming assistant

This has become a real tool for Nvidia since the April joke about eight years ago.

The chipmaker launched an experimental version of AI assistant Project G-Assist on Tuesday, which aims to enhance the PC experience for gamers and creators. This feature is available for desktop users (whose visual computing platform) through the NVIDIA application GeForce RTX. The company said it will add broader support in future dates.

G-Assist – joked on Twitter in 2018 and later demonstrated on Computer Expo Computex in 2024 – helps users manage key PC settings such as optimizing gaming and system performance, measuring frame rates and lighting through basic voice or text commands.

Users can request real-time performance metrics, such as latency and temperature, and require the system to optimize these metrics for a specific game. Assistants can also provide diagnostics and advice to reduce system bottlenecks, improve power efficiency and overclock GPUs, according to the company. It supports integration with third-party devices from companies like Logitech G, Corsair, and Nanoleaf by allowing users to baseline or adjust fan speed, lighting, and other custom settings.

The move comes as more companies work to integrate human-like AI systems into their platforms with tools designed to perform daily tasks and simplify digital experiences.

As NVIDIA continues to launch the next-generation technology, G Assistant is here. At the 2025 GPU Technology Conference, CEO Jensen Huang announced a set of tools designed to help humanoid robots learn how to become robots. The company also recently launched its latest lineup of AI chips and shared its evolving vision of quantum computing.
