Man was jailed for “reck” tower street arson

A man was sentenced to eight years in prison after deliberately opening fire in a stairwell in a residential tower.

Israeli Barber caught fire shortly after 06:00 BST on October 20, 2022 at Eccleston House in Bristol.

The 37-year-old, who lives in the neighborhood, denied the crime, claiming he was in his apartment at the time. However, he was captured on CCTV, moving around the building.

“Baber’s actions are very dangerous and there is no doubt that they could lead to worse for another day,” said Det Ch Insp Laura Miller from Avon and Somerset Police Department.

Barber was convicted by a jury on March 14 at Crown Court in Bristol.

His Honorary Judge James Patrick said in the same court sentencing Monday that Barber “had harmed his neighbors and friends and led to a major incident.”

Babur’s sentence has increased due to aggravation and he will detain at least two-thirds of his custody.

“Rust Action”

The fire spread rapidly around the buildings and all residents had to evacuate. Police said a person must be rescued by the fire department.

No one was seriously injured, but six people needed treatment for inhaling smoke.

Many residents have moved out and resided by Bristol City Council, with an estimated cost of more than £600,000.

Det Ch Insp Miller said: “The building is designed to enable residents to safely exit different stairs, but this should not downplay the severity of what Baber does.

She added: “It is understandable that the fire caused a lot of alarm from residents and Barber refused to take responsibility for his reckless behavior at any stage.”
