Yankees News: JC Escarra becomes MLB Opening Day Roster

It’s some heartfelt moments in the baseball club of the year as players learn that they’ve become the MLB Opening Day lineup.

Whether it’s the highest prospect or a minor league guy, they finally get years of work to answer the phone, which is always a special moment.

For the New York Yankees, the water plant took place in the office of manager Aaron Boone, when he lets catcher JC Escarra know he’s going to New York instead of having a great spring training instead of a minor league mission.

Escarra is an Uber driver and substitute teacher who can help pay bills while working for independent clubs for two years. It helps make his Major League Baseball dream.

Escarra, 29, doesn’t have to worry about this anymore, as Boone gave him something to call his mother and grandmother. The Yankees caught the moment Escarra was crying with her loved ones on FaceTime and returned to work.

“It feels amazing,” Escarra said in the New York Post Sunday morning. “A lot of time has come. I’m just so happy to be here, now my dreams come true. It’s easy now. It’s just playing baseball on the biggest stage now, so I’m excited about what’s going to happen.”

Escarra added that he wasn’t a freak, but it was hard when he knew how his mother would react.

“It’s just a special moment,” he said. “I’ve been through a special moment because she’s gone through it with me, too.”

Escarra said he made $400 every two weeks when he played independent ball, and no matter what the season he was, he also went abroad to keep his dreams. He just wanted to do “all these weird jobs just to support my family” and sometimes he thought it wouldn’t work.

Jump into this spring training and you’d think it’s an unwise Boone, the Yankees want him to break camp with the big club as he hit 3 home runs and 8 RBIs on 48 shots.

Last season, Escarra cut .261/.355/.434 with 12 home runs and 64 RBIs.

Now, he will focus on making an impact with the Yankees, hoping to return to the World Series after losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in October.

Escarra believes it is Austin Wells’ substitute catcher.

“I feel like I did everything to show that I can help the team win. Thank God for being here,” Escarra said.

The Yankees opened the regular season schedule at home against the Milwaukee Brewers in the Bronx. Escarra expects many friends and family to witness the moment he debuted, which could be in the first series.
