“We can’t avoid 100% of the abuse in certain sizes, and that’s one of them,” said Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Heathrow. “It’s a big event. I mean, no one was injured, it’s as big as our airport, and we actually came back soon.”
While some travelers and officials called for an investigation into the fire, police said there were no early signs of foul. In view of the huge impact of the fire on the national infrastructure, the Counter-terrorism police are leading the investigation.
The latest figures from travel data provider OAG Aviation show that Heathrow is the busiest airport in the world this month. Earlier this year, it reported its busiest January record, serving 6.3 million passengers, an average of more than 200,000 passengers per day.
