The 560-pound Twitter logo has been sold for $34,000

Twitter may be dead, but the 12-foot-tall bird logo at the San Francisco headquarters will continue to exist. The logo is one of two birds that previously decorated Twitter offices – for sale at auction for $34,375.

That’s less than $40,000 in the Auctioneers RR House estimates it will be taken out, but it’s still an expensive piece of social media history. The huge logo that marks the company’s headquarters on Market Street in San Francisco is undoubtedly one of the most iconic symbols associated with social media companies. (The logo was unceremoniously removed after Musk changed the company to X.)

Unknown buyers will also be responsible for the cost of moving the logo from the current San Francisco storage facility. This alone is not a trivial matter. The list shows that the logo is 145˝x105˝ (approximately 12 feet x 8 feet) and weighs 560 pounds. The YouTube video that comes with the list shows that this requires a crane and several teams of workers to remove the building’s logo.

RR Auction

The final state of “Larry” is not revealed yet, as the identity of the bidder has not been revealed, but anywhere on the landing, the 12-foot-tall sign is bound to make a statement.

It is worth noting that this is not the first auction area for The Larry (the Twill Award before the nickname was awarded to the site’s iconic bird logo). Many of Twitter’s previous office content was auctioned in 2023 after Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022. The other logos were slightly smaller and proved to be popular at the time, with one statue adorning the office’s statue for $100,000. Another Big Bird logo of the building is auctioned for an undisclosed price.
