Washington – Rep. Elise Stefanik Nomination President Trump confirmed Thursday that becoming the UN ambassador has been withdrawn, and the president said he had asked her to stay in Congress.
The president’s decision to nominate ended a two-month hurdle for New York Republicans.
“As we put forward the first agenda of the United States, we must maintain every Republican seat in Congress,” Mr. Trump wrote in The Society of Truth. “We have to complete the task in a unified way, and Elise Stefanik has been an important part of our efforts from the very beginning. I asked Elise to be one of my biggest allies to help me provide my long history,” he wrote. Tax cutsexcellent work, record economic growth, safe boundaries, energy advantages, through strength and peace, and so on, so we can make America great again. Because of the vast majority, I don’t want to seize any other opportunity to run for Elise seats. ”
Earlier Thursday, CBS News reported that her nomination was in danger as Republican pressure kept her away from the position.
Several sources told CBS News that discussions are underway about whether she should withdraw from consideration. Stefanik has not resigned from the seat in Congress, and with the House majority, Republicans need all the votes they can raise. House Speaker Mike Johnson is aware of some conversations about Stefanik held Thursday.
There is no doubt that Stefanik will get confirmed votes. Her nomination was filed by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on January 30. Republicans have a narrow majority of 218 seats in the House, while Democrats have 213 seats. There are currently four open seats.
Republicans discuss waiting for further action on the Stefanik nomination to see how the Florida special election was held on April 1 Vacant Republican seats. Both are expected to maintain Republican control.
Stefanik did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CBS News.
Stefanika New York Republican has been one of President Trump’s most loyal allies and the second nominee he announced after the 2024 election. She was elected to Congress in 2014 and promoted to Republican leadership, becoming the highest-ranked Republican woman in the House.
Stefanik attended a cabinet meeting at the White House late last month.
