Discord app gets video ads in June
Discord officially launches task ads on mobile devices and will begin displaying videos to users in exchange for rewards starting in June 2025. The Message Service has tested its advertising experience called “Quests” on mobile devices a while after it was officially launched on desktop a year ago. But next month, video tasks will be widely used on their mobile apps. Disharmony sees experience as “a way for players to discover games and new content while playing, streaming or watching videos.”
But for advertisers, it’s a way to get people to watch new games for trailers, as well as video announcements like DLC Drops. Some tasks even require users to stream the game to unlock rewards and potentially earn advertiser titles. Discord said the company has used the format for advertising campaigns to franchise some of the most well-known video game franchises, including Diablo, Street Fighter, World of Warcraft and Genshin Impact. Other non-video game companies use this format, so you can also expect movie trailers and other types of video announcements. For example, Max makes the user watch Dunes: Prophecy Before premiere. Like on the desktop, users will be notified when a task is available and they can choose to accept it to perform the required task.
