Brazilian police said on Sunday that two people were arrested on suspicion of detonating a bomb at a free Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro.

Saturday’s event attracted about 2 million fans to Copacabana Beach.

State police in Rio de Janeiro said they had worked with the Justice Department to undermine the attack allegedly by a group that spreads hate speech against the LGBTQ community. Police said the group tried to radicalize and recruit teenagers to attack using Molotov cocktails and simple explosives.

“The plan is seen as a ‘collective challenge’ with the goal of making a name for itself on social media,” police said.

Authorities say they arrested two people linked to the planned attacks — allegedly illegal weapons possession charges in southern Rio de Janeiro and a child pornography charge in Rio de Janeiro.

The concert was the biggest performance of Gaga’s career.

“Tonight, we are making history,” Mrs. Gage told a screaming crowd. “Thank you for making history with me.”

A spokesman for Lady Gaga told CBS News that the team learned about the alleged threat through media reports.

“There were no known security issues before and during the show, and no communication between the police or authorities regarding any potential risks with Lady Gaga,” the spokesperson said. “Her team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert, and all parties were confident in the safety measures taken.”
