Ford tests its Gen 2 NACS adapter by running it with the F-150

It’s been a year since Ford’s electric cars accessed Tesla’s supercharged network using a free NACS fast charging adapter. This week, the automaker doubled its commitment to North America charging systems, adding NACS fast charger routing through Apple Maps in CarPlay and a second-generation NACS fast charger adapter adapter for its F-150 lighting electric pickup and Mustang Mach-Mach-E SUV. The new adapter is expected to be easier and more reliable to use.
In 2023, Ford is the first flood to announce support for Tesla’s chosen North American charging system. A year later, this is the first to offer any owner a free NACS charging adapter between February and June 2024 to do a good job with the vows. According to the automaker, its drivers use these adapters extensively. Tesla supercharged stations have nearly 20% of Ford electric vehicles paid visits.
NACS and Tesla supercharger stations are now recommended when planning large trips via Apple Carplay.
The addition of Tesla’s V3 supercharger has grown the BlueOval Charge network – Ford’s compatible charging station database, estimated at 44,000 DC fast charging points in North America. Drivers can find and navigate to these stations through the vehicle’s on-board navigation, the Ford Channel app, and now Apple Maps EV routes.
Just yesterday, Ford Mustang and F-150 Lightning Driver (F-150 Lightning Driver) featured a trip that included a NACS fast charging station in CarPlay with Apple Maps EV Rature calculations. Apple Maps can now detect the charging status of the host EV to calculate when it needs to be plugged in, and recommends charging stations along routes (including Tesla rescuers) when planning longer trips. Recommended stops for NACS stations include warnings that bring you a fast charging adapter. However, since Apple Carplay is separated from the Core EV system, battery preprocessing for Apple Maps EV routing is not supported.

To test the new adapter, Ford and lectron suffered snow, water, impact, and even crush tests under the F-150 Lightning EV.
Today, Ford also announced the second generation of NACS adapters. Developed with EV charging accessories maker Lectron, the new Ford fast charging adapter is said to be more robust and reliable, capable of withstanding a variety of climates, conditions and abuses, and owners can exceed the lifetime of the vehicle – from snow to water flooding, thus running through the F-150 Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightscts. The adapter has an integrated handle that is more ergonomic, easier to grip than the previous generation, and new vehicle interlocks, preventing accidental unplugging of the adapter during charging.
The new Ford Quick Charging Adapter is also a bit cheaper than its $230 predecessor when ordered from Ford’s website or service center – I’m likely going to stock up as well given the experience of building and shipping my own adapters.
