13 people were injured while capsizing school bus on New Jersey Expressway

Authorities said a school bus with at least 31 passengers was overturned on Garden State Road near Montville, New Jersey, and 13 people were injured Monday night.

According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the bus capsized on the northbound lane north of Exit 171.

Video shot by CBS News in New York shows the yellow bus sits on one side next to the road surrounded by fire trucks and emergency responders.

According to officials, the bus has been from Lakewood, New Jersey to Rockland County, New York. Montville Mayor Mike Ghassali said on social media that 13 people were injured and hospitalized. He said one person was seriously injured.

It is not clear what caused the crash, how old the passenger is or the agency that the bus may be associated with.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said on social media that he had briefed the crash. He said an investigation was underway and the New Jersey Police Department and the New Jersey Department of Transportation were on the scene.

The Montville Police Department asked questions to New Jersey State Police, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
