The obvious vehicle crash in Mannheim, Germany killed at least one person, and multiple injuries

A vehicle drove into a group of people in the western German city of Mannheim on Monday, killing at least one person and causing others to be seriously injured, according to police. The city’s police force said an operation is underway in the area and urged people to avoid central Mannheim.

The incident occurred when crowds gathered in a city parade in Germany to commemorate the carnival season, and witnesses said the incident occurred near such events.

In a statement posted on social media, police confirmed a continuing operation after a car drove into the centre of Mannheim and said based on preliminary information: “One person was killed and several were injured.”

“There is no information on the number and severity of the injury. As part of the search measures that were launched immediately, the suspect was identified and arrested.”

Witnesses at the scene told Reuters they saw several people, including two medical staff, who appeared to be working to recover.

Local media quoted witnesses as saying that some people saw a black SUV drive from an area where the parade was carried out, hitting people and causing serious injuries.
