How to Clean Everything on the Bed (2025)

If you use a duvet cover instead of top paper on your bedspread, Holliday-Bell says washing with the bedspread every two to four weeks is usually enough, depending on your personal preferences and usage. I know it’s tempting to keep the duvet covers in place for a few months because they’re annoying, but regular washing is as important as sheets. Or just switch to the top paper and wash it with the sheets every week.

The advice for cleaning your pillow depends on your pillow type. Is there a cover? What kind of fill does it have? Our top pillow selection manufacturer, Casper, usually recommends washing the pillow every three to six months and pillowcases every two weeks. If you don’t use a pillowcase and just sleep directly on the pillow cover (you’re a wild person), you need to wash the pillow cover at this frequency. Even if the pillowcases cover them, especially when you are sick or drooling, we will try washing the pillow cover for a month or two.
But what about pillow fillings, or what if your pillow doesn’t have a lid? it depends. Most pillows and fillings can enter the wash liquid, but some loose foam fillings (such as honey or fillings for coop pillows) are not designed for washing. Solid foam pillows may also require hand washing instead of throwing into the washing machine. You need to double-check the instructions for a specific pillow to make sure it is washed correctly.

The issue of how often you want to clean up your bedspread is incredible. Some people would rather wash once a month or so, although others recommend washing once a year or twice a year. If you have a duvet cover, you can wash it more frequently and save yourself the hassle of washing the bed cover. We’ve found that even the Down version can hold well as long as we thoroughly dry the bedspread. Avery notes that you should clean it when needed (using warm water and soft soap) or as needed, and that machine washing will damage the fill placement (especially on the baffle box comforter). You should dry-clean heavier bedding or wash those items on the front loader to prevent damage to the washing machine, Iyaz said.
How to clean the mattress

You can find the mattress clean. Please note that if it has a built-in cover (such as our favorite spiral mattress), the cover should not be removed to clean the cover. You need to use too much water with caution – the last thing you want is a bed with a water hole. To clean the spots, first vacuum the bed to remove dust, dander and other debris. Next, you can sprinkle baking soda on any stain, wipe it with an old toothbrush, and then let it sit for about 10 minutes before vacuuming. Baking soda can help neutralize bad odors. Finally, for stubborn spots, you can mix hydrogen peroxide and water with a small bar of soap. Spray or apply the solution on top and sprinkle more baking soda. Let the paste sit for a few hours and vacuum it.

Make sure to vacuum and/or spread the bed frame regularly. Brush attachments can help with dust and debris (such as the so-called hot Cheeto debris mentioned above), and the gap tool can help you get into corners and crevices. If your bed frame is cushioned, you can use dishwashing soap and warm water to mix the spot stains. You may need to test by cleaning a small portion of the field of view to make sure the back of the fabric looks the same. If the wooden bed frame looks bad, you can benefit from furniture wax. Always refer to the manufacturer’s care instructions.
