Beijing (AP) – China announced some retaliatory tariffs on Canadian farms and food imports on Saturday after Canada imposed tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles and steel and aluminum products in October.
According to a statement from the State Legislative Council on Customs and Tariffs, the new duties have come into effect on March 20. Canadian rapeseed oil, petroleum cakes and peas will also impose an additional 100% tariff, and pork and water production products will also increase tariffs by 25%.
These tariffs have increased global trade tensions, and tariff announcements from the United States, China, Canada and Mexico are also high.

Retaliation against Ottawa, those duties were imposed on tariffs on Chinese imports in October, including 100% SURTAX for all Chinese-made electric vehicles, and 25% steel and aluminum imports.
“Despite China’s opposition and dissuasion, Canada has taken unilateral restrictive measures to fail to investigate electric vehicles, steel, aluminum and other products imported from China, undermining China’s economic and trade relations,” the customs authority’s statement said.
After the “anti-discrimination investigation,” the decision to impose retaliation duties found that Canada’s restrictive measures against certain Chinese products undermined the normal trade order and harmed the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies. ”
Canada announced tariffs on Chinese goods after the United States and the EU imposed similar responsibilities on electric vehicles and other products made in China. Western governments say China’s subsidies give its industry an unfair advantage.
