Apple was surprised to announce a new Mac studio that was the M4 Max and the brand new M3 Ultra Chips in the middle of Wednesday’s “Air” week. The live will be released on March 12, and the refreshed compact desktop is now available for $1,999 on the M4 MAX version of the Apple Store and $1,999 on the M3 Ultra Variant.
The new Mac Studio is called “the most powerful Mac ever” and the new Mac Studio is said to bring “a huge improvement in performance compared to the previous generation, and this huge leap for users from older Macs.”
Mixable light speed
The M4 Max model has a maximum CPU of up to 40 cores, up to 3.5 times higher than the end of 2021 (the M1’s largest-powered Mac Studio starting at the end of 2021), and 6.1 times faster than the 2020 27-inch Intel Imac. Its 16-nuclear neuroengine is said to be three times faster than its M1 Max Max Max Max Max Counterpart. It has 32GB to 128GB of RAM and 512GB to 8TB of SSD storage for up to $5,899 and supports up to five monitors. Apple recommends it to creative professionals, developers, and engineers with a large number of workflows involving visual effects and AI tasks.

The M3 Ultra model is suitable for users who use workloads More Require. With up to a 32-core CPU (including 24 performance cores), the most CPU cores Apple’s even crammed into a Mac, it’s up to twice as fast as the M4 Max version in certain tasks and up to 2.6 times faster than the M1 Ultra Mac Studio from 2022. That CPU is joined by up to an 80-core GPU, another record-setter, plus a 32-core Neural Engine for AI tasks and machine Learning. It comes with 96GB to 512GB of RAM and 1TB to 16TB of storage for up to $14,099. It supports up to eight 6K monitors.
According to Apple, both configurations of GPUs have dynamic caches, hardware-accelerated mesh shadows and a second-generation ray tracing engine “for more seamless content creation and gaming.”
Outside, the new Mac Studio is the same silver box we know, except that it now has Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. The two configurations have four Thunderbolt 5 ports on the back, as well as two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a 10GB Ethernet port and a headphone jack. Both models have an SDXC card slot on the front, and the M3 Ultra model pairs it with two additional Thunderbolt 5 ports. The M4 Max models swap them into two USB-C ports.
