“NOAA affects every aspect of America’s life. I think a lot of people know about NOAA’s weather warnings and hurricane tracking and tornado warnings. It’s all very important. These things save lives. And don’t get me wrong, it’s going to be affected. I think we live in a less secure society now and because of these effects, we are more vulnerable to extreme weather now.”
In Silver Spring, protesters in Maryland gathered under the slogan “Save NOAA now!”, calling for the resumption of termination of workers.
The layoffs affected hundreds of NOAA employees last week, and the agency continues to provide the country with basic weather forecasts and hurricane warnings.
