Columbus’s Burke Bernard Knight Host Vietnam Memorial
BERKBURG (KFDX/KJTL) – Although Vietnam Veterans Day is March 29, remember that their sacrifice for the country will never be too early or too late.
In honor of many Vietnamese veterans who did not receive the warmest welcome when they returned home from the war, the Vietnam Memorial Program has been responsible for ceremonies held across the country. During Saturday’s ceremony, the Ministry of Defense Diana Mason visited the Saint Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Burkburnett to honor veterans from all military departments serving in Vietnam.
As a long-time partner in the program, Mason continues to be proud to recognize veterans.
“The program remains the same excitement as it was when we first started,” Mason said. “The veterans of the Vietnam era did not happen as they should have happened, and it’s time for us to welcome them home.”
The Vietnam War Memorial Program began in 2012 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Since then, the program has played a role in honoring more than one million veterans nationwide.
