Rain, cool temperatures back to the Los Angeles area: What you need to know

After a few days of warmth, this week begins with a few cold and wet storms that will return to Southern California.

The forecaster said below-average temperatures could last until mid-March.

“We are going to really get back to winter in the next few days, with two to three very cold low-pressure systems coming,” said Mike Wofford, meteorologist at Oxnard National Weather Service. “It’s going to be a big change.”

Southern California may start raining from Saturday, with the Los Angeles area scoring its best shots Sunday and Monday, the National Weather Service said. The total will be moderate, topped at half an inch.

Another round of light rain may occur from Wednesday to Thursday.

Cool temperatures came after the heat waves earlier this week.

Downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach both hit 88 degrees of toast Thursday, breaking the 2020 86 and 84 degrees records, according to the National Weather Service.
